1979-1982 Canadian Gold Maple Leaf 1 Troy oz 24 karat (.999 fine) legal tender coin struck by the Royal Canadian Mint. The Gold Maple carries a face value of Canadian $50, and was first introduced in 1979. At that time it was the first pure gold bullion coin available for investors.
For the first 3 years of its production the Canadian Maple purity was .999 fine, using gold mined in Canada. After 1982 the coins were struck using .9999 fine gold, the early ones carry a lower premium.
