This 1998-S Robert F. Kennedy Silver Dollar Proof honors Kennedy, the former Senator and Attorney General of the United States. Robert served as Attorney General under John F. Kennedy’s administration and for several months after the assassination of John. He then resigned to run as a U.S. Senator from New York, which he won. Robert later campaigned for the office of the President, and was the Democratic front-runner when he was assassinated at the age of 42 on June 4, 1968.
The obverse shows a front-facing portrait of Kennedy, the reverse a combination of two emblems is shown: the Seal of the Department of Justice and the Seal of the United States Senate.
This proof $1 Dollar silver coin was struck at the San Francisco Mint. It is made the same composition and size as the old (pre-1936) Silver Dollars- 90% silver, 10% copper, 38.5mm diameter and containing 0.7734 Troy oz of silver.
