1984 American Arts Commemorative Series Gold medallion celebrating the life of John Steinbeck.

John Ernst Steinbeck, Jr. is widely known for the Pulitzer Prize-winning novels The Grapes of Wrath (1939) and East of Eden (1952) and the novella Of Mice and Men (1937). As the author of twenty-seven books, including sixteen novels, six non-fiction books and five collections of short stories, Steinbeck received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1962.

This medallion was struck by the U.S. Mint in .900 fine gold, containing exactly 0.5 Troy oz gold and 0.055 Troy oz of copper. Total weight is 0.555 Troy oz.
