Product Description

1862 US Gold Indian Head $1 in Almost Uncirculated condition (about AU-55).

The gold dollar was a United States dollar coin produced from 1849 to 1889. Composed of 90% pure gold, it was the smallest denomination of gold currency ever produced in the United States. Because of the high value of gold, the gold dollar is the smallest coin in the history of US coinage. Weighing 1.672 grams, the coin had a composition of .900 gold and .100 copper. It contained .04837 ounces of pure gold, and is 15mm in diameter.

These are very interesting coins and quite rare. Due to their small size they were constantly getting lost, so they were not very popular.

Coin is in Almost Uncirculated condition, may have been mounted in jewelry at some point as there are some dents on the rim on the reverse of the coin. It is hard to tell.
